An apartment block covered in evergreen trees is being built in Switzerland.

The 36 storey tower called “La Tour Des Cedres” or The Tower of Cedars, will be 117m-tall (384ft) and is being built in Lausanne, Switzerland.

It will be the first building in the world to be covered in evergreen trees and will be home to more than 100 trees, 6,000 shrubs and 18,000 plants which will be spread through the 3,000 square metre green space.

The plants will help to protect the building from harsh winds, dust and probably most importantly reduce noise pollution. Best of all the tower will be a more pleasant view for the city than another tower of concrete and glass.

The building’s been designed by Italian architect, Stefano Boeri, who built other green structures like the incredible “Vertical forest” in Milan.

“Green buildings” like this may be the future for architecture with one London architecture firm, creating a new gazebo has a living “skin” that produces oxygen and absorbs considerable amounts of carbon dioxide.
