1666: Amsterdam was shrouded in mystery, but some new footage has surfaced that sheds a little light on the game that was intended as the new Assassin’s Creed.
Even last week, when Ubisoft gave the rights back to the original developer after a lengthy legal kerfuffle, everyone remained unsure as to what the hell the game was actually supposed to be.
Well now we have some idea, as the game’s creator Patrice Desilets has shared the first-ever public footage of the game during a presentation in Europe.
Journalist Brandon Sheffield attended the event, and shared the following footage which comes from a build of the game for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
1666: Amsterdam was reportedly planned to head to Xbox One and PlayStation 4, since developer THQ Montreal was eventually closed, this never happened. Ubisoft then picked up the rights to the game, and fired Desilets, which led to the legal wrangle.
Friends, Ubi and I agreed, I got it back! :) https://t.co/lKqj5enJth #1666Amsterdam pic.twitter.com/Z19MLwdgEY

The game’s theme was apparently to be worse than the Devil, which is why you could control animals often associated with black magic. To be fair, that does sound kind of awesome.
Since Desilets now has the rights to his game back, we might one day see 1666: Amsterdam make a return. Watch the footage below.
Desilets is currently working on a game called Ancestors: the Humankind Odyssey with Panache Digital Games, but has suggested he could return to 1666: Amsterdam one day.
