The eagerly awaited footage of Avengers: Infinity War has been revealed at D23, Disney’s star-studded fan convention in Anaheim California, and Marvel fans everywhere are freaking out…

Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige has soaring ambitions for the film, which he describes as being:

by far the biggest production in the history of Marvel Studios.

Biggest is certainly the word…

The production will bring together the majority of the super heroes who have been brought into the franchise over the past ten years, including characters whose films have yet to be released. Reportedly, this will involve a whopping 67 characters.

Avengers: Infinity War is the first instalment in a two-part series which will conclude the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Cycle.

If Marvel can carry off a meaningful and complex plot with such an extensive cast, whilst offering a credible conclusion to around about a hundred storylines, then this will mark a turning point in comic book movie history.

All the fan favourites were in attendance, including Tom Holland (Spider Man), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor).

The excitement of the D23 audience was palpable as the assorted array of heroes assembled themselves on the stage, as if ready for battle.

Even Feige himself admitted, as he introduced the teaser footage, to ‘geeking out’ at the sight of the stars standing together, side-by-side.

In an interesting choice of narrative, the footage begins retrospectively, dipping back into the ten year history of Marvel Productions films as if to emphasise that each narrative so far has been building up to the upcoming film series…

The audience is asked to recall pinnacle moments such as Iron Man’s origins and the destruction of Stark Tower at the end of The Avengers, reconsidering how such seemingly separate events could be interconnected.

Then the footage is flooded with new scenes from the upcoming movie, showing the familiar mix of humour, suspense and thrills that viewers have come to expect… and there is a hell of a lot to think on.

New visually striking scenes show Star Lord (Chris Pratt) offering the following advice to his team as they arrive in an asteroid field:

Okay, Guardians, don’t forget this might be dangerous, so let’s put on our mean faces.

Asgardian is suddenly  tossed violently against the windshield of the Star Lord’s Milano, leading Rocket (Bradley Cooper) to comically exclaim ‘get it off!’

Thor is woken from the dead, greeting the guardians with a grumpy ‘who are you?’, although it is strongly suggested that he will join forces with the heroic team…

Other footage is more ominous, with shots showing Thanos holding up one hand and completely obliterating an entire planet while offering the following sinister warning:

‘You can run from it,  but your destiny still arrives.’

Marvel have yet to release the teaser footage on to YouTube (beware of realistic fakes!)

However, fans are crossing their fingers for another glimpse into the beloved universe at Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con panel.

The hotly anticipated first half of Infinity War will blast into cinemas 4 May 2018, marking a full decade of Marvel Productions.
