If you don’t know who Donald Glover is in this day and age, then I think we can safely assume that you’ve been living under a rock.
But that’s not going to matter when May 2018 comes around, because the new Star Wars spinoff is about to launch him into stratospheric levels of fame.
In the new flick (an as yet untitled Han Solo origin story), Glover will be playing fan favourite, smooth-talking smuggler Lando Calrissian.
And newly appointed director Ron Howard has been treating fans to a sneak preview of Lando on his social media accounts.
Fans of the franchise have been slightly concerned as of late thanks to what seems to be a very troubled production.
Last month, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the shoot because of ‘creative differences’ with Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy.
She jettisoned in Oscar winner Ron Howard to helm what little remains of the shoot, despite most of the movie being filmed already.
These new images have come at the perfect time, then, to get people hyping the way they should be.
And who better to do that than Childish Gambino himself?

I won’t lie, I’m still slightly worried about this film, despite the talent attached to it.
Ron Howard is a pretty safe pair of hands to bring this one home, but whether it will be an interstellar smash remains to be seen.
Lord and Miller have a track record of turning films that look shit on paper into something pretty spectacular, a la 21 Jump Street.

But Howard’s recent roster of flicks haven’t quite hit the heady heights of A Beautiful Mind. I’d even go so far as to say that Inferno was up there with the worst films I’ve ever seen.
But if there’s anything promising about this film, it’s the cast.
Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thandie Newton and of course Alden Ehrenreich as Solo himself.
That’s a good cast by anyone’s book.
So here’s hoping this film actually turns out okay, I think that’s the best we can hope for in these circumstances.
In Glover we trust.
