The first trailer for the new X-Men movie, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, has officially been released.
The upcoming movie has been shrouded in mystery since it was announced, leaving fans highly anticipating what Dark Phoenix will hold.
The official trailer was debuted on The Late Late Show with James Corden, showing favourite characters from X-Men: Apocalypse returning for more action.
Check out the trailer here:
The movie stars James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Jessica Chastain (Smith), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler).
However, the trailer focuses on the character of Jean Grey, played by Game of Thrones actor, Sophie Turner. On a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed by a mysterious cosmic force.
The trailer teases Grey’s character as a dark superhero struggling with her powers, who’ll change the X-Men as we know it, as she merges with the cosmic power of the Phoenix.
Simon Kinberg, who’s directing the film, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his visions for the upcoming movie:
[The film] was so clear in my head, emotionally and visually, that it would have killed me to hand this to somebody else to direct.
I co-wrote X-Men 3, the ‘Dark Phoenix’ story, which is probably the most sacred of the X-Men storylines in the comics.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Turner explained how X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be different from previous X-Men movies, revealing:
This movie is kind of a lot more emotion-based, much more grounded.
This one is really character-driven – a really emotional story about a girl battling with a deadly mix of mental health problems and being a superhero. It’s such a departure from the last movie.
So it’s all wrapped up into one, and it’s a movie about struggle and abandonment and not knowing yourself. Yeah, an internal struggling. It’s so, so interesting.
Following the trailer’s release, many fans have taken to social media to give their approval, as well as express their excitement.

Should be interesting. Glad to see the X-Men team characters, especially Nightcrawler. Magneto always bring up good points. [sic]
