Five Things To Do With Shit Christmas Presents

Every year you get some good presents. You might even get some great ones.

God knows all the girls on Facebook seem happy with their combination of Michael Kors watches, engagement rings and perfume from their significant other – and we know that because of the #LuckyGirl posts.

Sadly for every smasher there’s a shit present to match it, and if you’ve been one of the unlucky ones this year, don’t despair.

There are ways to deal with shit presents, and here are five of them.

Take it back

Even if you don’t have the receipt, be it a gift one or otherwise, you can usually take presents back to the shop.

You might not be able to exchange that horrific PJ set your mother got you for cold, hard cash, but you can at least get something you plan on wearing instead. Yeah, I was thinking a onsie too.

At the end of the day, most people would rather you swap an unwanted gift than their money go to waste – and if not, just don’t tell them.

Back of the cupboard

If you don’t want to take it back – or worse, can’t for sentimental reasons (yeah, that vase from your mother-in-law can’t ever be binned or replaced because she’d hate you even more) then stick it at the back of a cupboard you never open.

Then, when you need to pull it out and place it lovingly on your coffee table and pretend it’s there all year round, you can.

Family politics 101 right there.

Bin them

That’s a last resort, but some of the presents that have been doing the rounds on social media are so bad, it’s the only solution.

If you don’t know what shop to take it back to, or just can’t be arsed to, walk over to your kitchen bin, open the lid, and stick the present in it.

And remember who got it for you, just so you can return the favour next year. That part is essential.

Re-gift them

Bubble bath you don’t want? A kitchen appliance you’re never going to use?

Easy. Keep it until yet another one of your friends gets married or has a birthday, because eventually, one of them will happen.

Then, you get rid of what you don’t want and manage to save some cash. Win, win.

Oh, and if the gift is incredibly shit, make sure you re-gift it to someone you don’t like.

Give it back

Yeah, probably a bit harsh, but if you want to make sure it doesn’t happen again, it might be the only way.

Just remember, if you do decide to do this, you’ll probably still have to speak to the person you’re about to offend.

There are ways to give something back and be nice about it – apparently – or you know, you could just be blunt and go with the ‘I told you I f*cking hate Lynx Africa Nan’ strategy.

And remember, no matter which of the five options you pick, make sure to document the whole thing on social media.

Because that’s how our generation roll. Obviously.
