It has been hard to separate fact from fiction in the 2016 world of Conor McGregor, and it isn’t getting any easier.

McGregor played a long and public game with the UFC to have his media commitments lessened and his name returned to the UFC 200 card – but the organisation was never too far behind in discrediting whatever the Irishman said.

The promotion tried to do the same with rumours a boxing super-fight against Floyd Mayweather may take place in the near future, seemingly killing the story after McGregor tweeted a convincing promo graphic.

Dana White is reported by MMA Junkie as saying:

It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story.”

And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.

But Mayweather has stepped in himself to ensure the rumour mill continues to work overtime…

As reported by the Daily Mail, ‘Money’ took full ownership of the rumours, saying:

It’s possible you knowIt was a name that was shot at me but the rumour that ya’ll been hearing, is the rumours that I started, may not be a rumour, so keep your fingers crossed.

It may be a boxer versus an MMA fighter, you just don’t know.

Mayweather says it could happen, McGregor says it could happen, so all that is really left to decide is if fans will pay to see it happen and can the fighters agree terms.
