Hey guys, how much fun did you have watching Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor last year? It really was the pinnacle of boxing wasn’t it?
Of course, it wasn’t! Don’t be silly, anyone with any amount of respect for the sport will know the fight was a joke the minute both men put pen to paper and decided to make last year’s fight official. Yet I respect others will be inclined to disagree with my opinion.
However the debate about the legitimacy of the fight aside, what you can’t deny was the hype and media circus which followed it – like moths to a flame, we all lapped it up because if there’s one thing ‘Money’ Mayweather and ‘The Notorious’ McGregor are good at, sport aside, it’s getting you excited.
If this is the kind of thing you fight fans miss – I guess real boxing is irrelevant in these changing times – then you can cling on to a slither of hope as Mayweather posted a cryptic post on Facebook and Instagram, showing him smashing a bloodied Conor McGregor in the face with what looks like a forearm/elbow blow – inside the Octagon of all places!
Obviously, it’s photoshopped and anyone who’s been following Mayweather’s career from the start knows he’s the king of mind games and absolute trash talk – second to Ali of course – with previous victims including the late great Arturo Gatti, ‘the Golden Boy’ Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton.
While Mayweather is ‘officially retired’ he’s teased a possible return to combat sports, this time with an eye for UFC.
His latest post could be considered as his intentions to try his hand at MMA and a possible rematch with the 21-3 McGregor.

McGregor ain’t no slouch either considering the merciless trash talking and trolling he offered towards Jose Aldo and Nate Diaz.
The Irishman has already responded to Mayweather’s online taunts by posting a picture of him beating Diaz in 2016’s rematch with a caption simply saying ‘A real elbow in a real fight’.
Many would question why Mayweather would even entertain such an idea but considering the amount of bank both he and McGregor made from their bout last year – Mayweather earning $100 million and McGregor taking home $30 million – it certainly is a lucrative prospect.
Or it could just be Mayweather being Mayweather?
‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd is many things – one of them being an absolute troll who loves nothing more than getting under people’s skins.
Would you like to see a rematch between both men again? Can you stomach another whirlwind tour of toxic male machismo and questionable trash talking for the sake of another fight which would inevitably fail to live up to the hype?
Or are you just hoping Mayweather steps into the Octagon so we can all FINALLY see him take an L – along with a long and overdue ass-whooping?
