Footage of a university football player being shot outside a school in Texas has gone viral this week.

According to police, five or six shots were fired at BYU recruit, Charles West, after playing a game of basketball at a middle school in Dallas.

In the footage that has surfaced, a man is seen walking up to Charles before opening fire. West manages to flee, and reportedly knocked on someone’s door for help about half a mile from the scene.

He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released with a bullet wound in his upper arm that has been described as a minor injury.

Coppell Police Department investigators identified 18-year-old Monat Kentrall as the gunman and said that he shot West over a money dispute. This was backed up by West, who admitted the pair had argued earlier in the day.

Howard has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a 2nd-degree felony, and is currently being held in the Carrollton Police Jail without bond.
