A cop in Washington D.C. has received praise from non-other than President Obama himself after she helped break up a teen brawl by starting a dance-off.
Officers were responding to a disorderly conduct call on Tuesday where they found a group of teens trying to fight each other. Instead of using force, the cop laid down a challenge.
One girl, 17-year-old Aaliyah Taylor, took her up on it. They danced to ‘Whip/Nae-Nae’ and ‘Bet You Can’t Do It Like Me’ by DLow.
Taylor told Fox 5 and the Washington Post the incident has taught her that:
Not all cops are bad. Instead of us fighting, she tried to turn it around and make it something fun. I never expected cops to be that cool. She had some moves.
The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral, soon coming to the attention of President Obama who tweeted:
“Who knew community policing could involve the Nae Nae? Great example of police having fun while keeping us safe.”
When contacted by the Washington Post, the officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the whole thing was: “Kind of embarrassing. This is what we do every day.”
Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said:
“The officer is known for her hard work and dedication to policing, she is a great credit to the Metropolitan Police Department.”
Somehow it never ends up being quite as cool when it happens in the UK, does it?
