Speaking to the Mirror, eyewitness Tom Elliott said:
I was crossing the bridge on my way to the station when it happened. It was immediately after the Wales match against Northern Ireland. There was something kicking off with a group of boys on the riverside and people were running towards something in that area.
Then I could hear people screaming ‘he’s got a gun’ and everyone ran towards the city centre.
People looked frightened, they were screaming and it was all very surreal. I felt very worried and I didn’t know what was going on but I just ran in the same direction as everyone else. I saw some people hiding behind a car near the station watching what was going on.
Thousands of football fans had gathered in the fanzone in the Welsh capital to watch their team defeat Northern Ireland in the last-16 of Euro 2016 and advance to the quarter finals.
Police arrived at the scene in riot vans after the scenes of celebration turned to terror amid reports of a large disturbance but no weapons were found.
However, South Wales Police have said that two men, aged 16 and 22, have been arrested in relation to the incident and are being held in police custody.
