North Korea’s Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-un is set to receive an award for statesmanship.

The big news here is that, surprisingly, it isn’t even being awarded by a North Korean organisation.

The Sukarno Education Foundation from Indonesia recently announced that they would be awarding the North Korean leader the prize for his “peace, justice and humanity”.

Now Rachmawati Sukarnoputri, founder of the organisation as well as daughter of Indonesia’s founding president, has defended the decision, saying the negative portrayals of North Korea are “Western propaganda”.

She told AFP:

The allegations about human rights abuses are untrue.

That’s all just Western propaganda. Those Western governments like to put ugly labels on North Korea.

Her father, President Sukarno, fought to establish Indonesia as an independent country, and the two nations established early ties back in the 1950s.

Sukarnoputri said Kim “should be honoured for his fight against neo-colonialist imperialism”.

They’d probably be better off honouring him for his love of Swiss cheese. And food in general.
