New York Department Of CorrectionsEarlier this week, the body of an unidentified man was washed up on a beach in Brooklyn wearing cement shoes.
Now, the New York Police Department have identified that man as 28-year-old Crips gang member ‘Petey Crack’, who was apparently rife in debt and had ‘wronged’ many people in the past.
Petey, whose real name is Peter Martinez, had been missing since February but a student who had gone for a stroll near the Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach found Martinez’s body washed up on the sand, wrapped in plastic bags and with his hands tied behind his back.
Perhaps most shockingly, his feet had been stuck in a five-gallon bucket filled with 100lb of concrete covering his feet up to his shins, in what appears to have been a failed attempt to prevent the body from resurfacing, reports the International Business Times.
WikimediaMartinez had been shot or stabbed although the exact cause of death was unknown.
Police say he had also been choked but medical examiners are yet to determine if his feet were placed in the bucket before he was dead or alive.
New York’s Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said:
This individual was wrapped in plastic bags and his arms were tied behind him and his feet were submerged in concrete.
Though concrete shoes have long been used as a sadistic murder choice in copious fictional gangster films, the murder of Peter Martinez is reportedly the first time they have ever been used (and found) in a real life homicide.
A veteran Brooklyn detective, told The Daily Beast:
This isn’t the wise guys. They do concrete better than this. This is a bullshit job!
WikimediaHis 33-year-old girlfriend, who is currently pregnant, told press that Martinez’s death did not come as that much of a surprise to her as he ‘owed a lot of money’ and had already been arrested over 30 times.
Police were able to identify the body due to a Virgin Mary tattoo which took up the majority of his back.
