This guy has to be the stupidest bank robber of all time.
Knife wielding Paul Neaverson’s not-so-cunning plan came unstuck when he ordered a cashier to pay money directly into his own bank account.
The 61-year-old walked into a branch of NatWest in Rainham, Kent and held a blade to a clerk’s throat, telling the employee to “put £500 in my account”.
But the absolute genius was forced to flee after the bank’s alarm was sounded.
He also tried, and failed, to rob a branch of HSBC which was just 400ft away, after the cashier told him they didn’t have £500 in the till.
And why was this guy so desperate for the cash, you ask? Because he needed money to book a flight to Corfu for a job interview as a golf coach. Standard.
Neaverson was arrested by police, who arrived soon after the second failed robbery.
In court, Danny Moore, defending, said of Neaverson’s attempts:
It was ridiculous. It only had one ending. He now finds himself staring down the barrel of a very long sentence.
Neaverson pleaded guilty to two attempted robberies and possession of a blade, and was jailed for two years.
Just incredible. We don’t think the guards will be too worried about this genius planning an elaborate escape from prison, somehow!
