GettyIt was announced yesterday that legendary performer and Wham! frontman, George Michael had passed away at just 53-years-old.
His fans have since been mourning the tragic loss and remembering Micheal’s lust for life and his passion for music. Many have looked to his final performance to enjoy Michael’s musical legacy and observe his talent for performing.
At London’s Earl’s Court on 17 October 2012, Michael performed for the last time, playing a blistering medley of his hits, including Amazing, I’m Your Man and Freedom 90 to a screaming army of fans.
GettySpeaking to the sold out venue, the former Wham! star said:
You have made the last night f*****g perfect.
It has truly been a privilege to play with these musicians for the last year and we want to say a big thank you to you all.
London, I love you so much. Sorry for making you wait to hear that; I hope it’s been worth the wait. Take care of yourselves.
This show – a culmination of the Symphonica tour’s 75 date European track – would be the pop icon’s last performance on stage.
Although Micheal had planned to embark on an Australian leg of the tour throughout November and December 2012, the then 49-year-old cancelled the leg due to ill health.
Now, four years on, fans and friends of Micheal are remembering his energetic presence, his artistic flair and – in the words of Elton John – his ‘generous soul’.
A statement released by his publicist confirmed the singer ‘passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period’.
