A teenage girl born without limbs who lived the majority of her life in a plastic bowl, tragically died on Christmas Day.

Rahma Haruna became famous around the world after a picture of her being carried by her brother was shared online, The Mirror reports.

The photojournalist who took the snap, Sani Maikatanga, shared the tragic news about the 19-year-old’s death on their Instagram page.

Rahma, from Kano, northern Nigeria, appeared to be a healthy baby but at six months old her growth suddenly stopped due to a mystery condition. It left her almost limbless and in constant pain.

Doctors were baffled by Rahma’s condition, with some even suggesting she was struck down by a supernatural being called a ‘jinn’.

Her mother, Fadi, said:

From six months when she learnt how to sit that was when it began. She didn’t learn how to crawl. She started with a fever and that was it. Then stomach pains. Then her body parts like hands and legs. She cannot use any if the ache strikes.

Rahma needed to be in the plastic bowl in order to keep herself upright and was recently given a wheelchair so she could be pushed around by her family.

Despite her limitations she spoke of her dream to run a small shop as a grocer, but sadly she did not live long enough to make that wish come true.
