Standing someone up on a date is a terrible thing, but when and if that time comes for you to experience it, the only person you can count on is yourself. So why not own it?
That’s what Mimi Black did after she was stood up by a date she’d travelled to meet in Glasgow. But instead of slipping back into her PJs and crying into a tub of Ben and Jerry’s, she decided to show him exactly what he was missing by taking herself out on a date instead.
Live-tweeting her one-person date and posting it all to Snapchat, Mimi showed her 32,000 followers what a good time she was having.
And it honestly sounds better than an actual first date.
Instead of sitting through first date awkward silences and small talk, the 21-year-old went lingerie shopping and bought herself some McDonald’s. And what better way to end the night than with a cocktail? Nothing says ‘look what you could have had’ than tweeting a Sex on the Beach.
She topped it all off by posting a photo of her in her newly-bought lingerie (probably in the hopes her would-be date sees it and cries all the way home).
Black wrote in the conclusion of her self-date Snapchat/Twitter series: “People will fuck you over. It’s up to you what you do about it.”
Mimi subsequently tweeted that the guy who stood her up has since apologised. She also said that she ‘hopes he finds what he wants in life,’ which is a great way to politely throw shade.
So far, Mimi’s photos have been shared over 5,500 times, and despite joking about the whole thing, Mimi said that ‘it took courage for [her] to even go’ but she forced herself to joke about the whole thing, Distractify reports.
She added: “At the end of the day, I’ll always have myself. And I don’t mind having a drink in a bar myself!”
Hopefully, no one will be standing her up again anytime soon. But if they do, there will always be more lingerie sales.
