I think we can all agree the gym is one of the last safe havens where dress code and style etiquette isn’t important.

In fact, all you have to do in the gym is make sure you’re not wearing something truly ostentatious while you’re working out, like jeans, penny loafers or flip-flops.

I mean you can wear what you like in the gym, I even saw someone wearing an Off-White hoodie and Nike Foamposites. But as it turns out, some gym establishments have morals which are equivalent to that of a conservative prude, which seems to be the case for Sarah Villafañewas.

For some reason, the staff at Villafañewas’ gym deemed her workout attire inappropriate! Look at what she’s wearing?!? And I don’t mean it in a derogatory, chauvinistic male gaze kind of way. I mean it in a ‘what is so wrong about what she’s wearing?’ manner.

It’s definitely not sexually suggestive in any type of way, and if you do happen to be feeling aroused by her picture I suggest you go outside and take a walk as soon as possible because you’ve been barricaded in your nuclear fallout shelter way too long.

Unfortunately for Villafañewas, her gym at the College of Charleston felt her outfit was just way too sexy to be seen in public, so they asked her to change into something more appropriate immediately (probably a nun’s outfit) or leave the premises.

Villafañewas says she was happily getting on with her workout when a member of staff interrupted her to tell her to put a shirt on so she had ‘full coverage’. Gym Etiquette 101: never interrupt someone mid-workout no matter how urgent the situation is, I don’t care if the building is on fire – wait till I’m done.

Shortly afterwards, the manager strolled over and told her the same thing before asking her to leave.

On Facebook she wrote:

I bought this outfit to work out in because it’s COMFORTABLE. What is the issue? Why can’t I work out in this outfit?

Is my belly button distracting to the general 85% male demographic that your gym serves? I’m forced to leave, WHY?

Honestly I’m so floored that I just got kicked out for this. DO BETTER COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON.

So I just got kicked out of the College of Charleston student gym for wearing this outfit. Like not allowed to work out….

In what sounds like a feeble attempt to cover up the real reason for kicking out poor Sarah, the College of Charleston later claimed they kicked her out for sanitary reasons – however, Sarah says they never once stated this when she was asked to leave.

FYI: the gym is one of the least sanitary places on the planet so what was so unsanitary they had to ask her to leave?

She went onto say:

The gym has since said that they kicked me out for ‘sanitary concerns’. However, they never made those sanitary concerns clear when they asked me to change.

They told me I need ‘more coverage’ and nothing more. Not to mention, their website has no written dress code anyway.

The dress code at the front of the gym simply says ‘Athletic wear must be worn’. I would say that what I’m wearing (whether you believe it’s a sports bra or a crop top) is completely normal and considered athletic wear.
