Girl Left With Severe Burns After Friend ‘Pranks’ Her In Hot Water ‘Challenge’

A 12-Year-old girl doused her 11-year-old friend with boiling hot water during a sleepover which left her with second-degree burns.

In what seems to be a case of a ‘prank gone horribly wrong’ Jamoneisha Merritt, 11, was left with severe burns to her face, back and shoulders after her friend, Aniya Grant Stuart, aged 12, poured hot water over her as part of a prank known as the ‘Hot Water Challenge’.

According CBS New York, Jamoneisha – who goes by Jamone, told her family that at 3AM, last Monday, while she was sleeping at friend’s apartment in the Bronx, Stuart ‘threw a pot of boiling water on her head’.

The NYPD told reporters that she was ‘intentionally scalded’ whilst being surrounded by girls she considered friends, it’s believed that the 12-year-old girl threw the pot of boiling water on her as she slept causing Merritt to ‘awake to suffer in agony’.

Merritt’s cousin, Yolanda Richardson told a CBS2 news reporter that:

Her and her friend got into an argument and she told her if she go to sleep they were going to do something to her…

She said she was screaming, that she was burning.

Merritt was taken to the Harlem Hospital Centre where they treated her burns where she remains in serious, but stable, condition.

Her Aunt, Lauren Merritt said that:

We’re trying to keep her spirits up, talking to her.

They haven’t given Jamoneisha a mirror yet so the 11-year-old is unaware how bad the damage to her face really is.

According to Aniya’s mother, Shernett Patton, when she realised the extent of the damaged that she inflicted on friend she tried to kill herself with a knife.

She was arrested in her flat in the Bronx with the police slapping her with a felony assault charge, she is currently in hospital under  suicide watch.

This shocking case is all part of a new, and disturbing, craze known as the Hot Water Challenge. It involves an unsuspecting victim getting hot water poured over them.

Police sources have said that in some cases there are people that are willingly trying to drink boiling hot water.
