A student from Brighton University who was accidentally locked in a room when she went to collect an essay has been freed thanks to help from celebrities on Twitter .
The Mirror reports that Emily Rycroft got stuck in the building after she nipped to the loo at the end of the day and was locked in by caretakers.
Emily at first tried to get in touch with her mum who at first didn’t believe her, but after finally convincing her the resourceful mum tweeted Radio 2 DJs, Jo Whiley and Jeremy Vine, to help rescue her daughter.
Luckily mum Gillian’s tweet was eventually seen by university staff and 21-year-old Emily was rescued from the room after just a few hours.
Emily, who is studying philosophy, politics and ethics told the BBC how she ended up trapped in the room.
She explained:
I was going home from my boyfriend’s house and I thought I would stop and pick up an essay that had been handed back in.
I thought I’d nip to the toilet downstairs, had five minutes to spare before they closed up, but I think someone fancied going home early.
They had locked the doors and must not have heard or seen me come in. I rang my mum and she thought I was joking.
She also tweeted a picture of the inside of the building she found herself trapped in.
A Brighton University spokesman said:
As soon as our security staff were informed of the incident they attended and released the student.
The building was being locked a little earlier than usual and we apologise for any distress this may have caused the student and her family.
Alls well that ends well then!
