A grandmother managed to stop a crazed man on a bus who claimed he was a suicide bomber with a bag full of explosives.

Gary Stewart got on the bus in Rutherglen near Glasgow and started screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is great) while brandishing a holdall, claiming he had a bomb that would go off in three minutes, the Daily Record has reported.

According to The Mirror a source said:

He had something in his hand that looked like a detonator and the passengers were really scared.

A lot of people were so frightened they froze and couldn’t move and the man was shouting a lot.

At this point the grandmother, believed to be in her 70s, crouched down and managed to phone police, who promptly stormed the bus. They quickly established the bomb threat was a hoax.

The bag was reportedly full of cans of cider.

Stewart, 41, was arrested, appearing in court the next day, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of falsely claiming he had a bomb and breaching the peace.

He’s set to appear for sentencing on October 29th.
