It isn’t unheard of for the happy couple at a wedding to leave the event somewhat worse for wear – the story of Matthew Aimers’ wedding sadly doesn’t fit this narrative at all.
The 31-year-old groom was removed from his own reception in handcuffs and with a police escort after a ‘drunken brawl’ followed allegations of sexual assault.
As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, Aimers’ Attorney has protested his client’s innocence in the face of a lengthy list of charges.
Aimers stands accused of approaching an underage server and propositioning her, with the affidavit of probable cause for his arrest stating he asked her to ‘go outside and make out’, before saying they could ‘do whatever you want.’
It’s alleged Aimers later followed the young woman into a bathroom, pulling her into an empty stall before exposing himself, assaulting her and offering payment of $100.
Northampton Township Police were called to attend the country club venue hours later following reports of a fight.
Upon arrival officers found Aimers ‘pushing and punching people’, with an employee of the country club claiming he was punched by the groom for informing him he couldn’t take alcohol outside.
Aimers had attempted to board a shuttle bus to evade law enforcement, which was met by an officer entering the vehicle with a taser drawn and giving instruction for the accused to make his way outside.
Following a scuffle with officers Aimers was eventually detained.
The server is reported to have repeatedly rejected Aimers advances, and broke free to escape from the bathroom.
After asserting Aimers ‘absolutely denies all chargers’ Louis Busico said:
He maintains his innocence, and he looks forward to clearing his name when this is all concluded.
The wedding took place on November 24, 2018, with Aimers first preliminary hearing taking place on January 17.
Aimers was released Wednesday after posting $35,000 of his $350,000 bail, court records show.
Charges against Aimers include simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, indecent assault, indecent exposure, imprisonment of a minor, harassment, and other related offences.
A preliminary hearing on the sexual assault case will take place on February 21.
