After the release of the second Captain America: Civil War trailer, the Internet has gone mad for Spider-Man.

Despite the vast majority of fans loving Tom Holland in the brief glimpse we get of the wise cracking wall-crawler (seriously, the costume looks like it walked off one of Ditko’s pages), not everyone’s on board. Although, for the record, these people are wrong.

People’s main gripe with the latest incarnation of Spidey is a combination of the suit being enhanced by CGI and that it doesn’t look like the suit in the other movies, both of which seem like splitting hairs – or webs in this case.

Regardless, everyone’s entitled to an opinion…

Despite these people being wrong on every conceivable level, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has stepped in to calm the nerves of jittery fans.

The Marvel director, who has been singing the praises of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War on social media, took to Twitter to assure fans that Holland’s version of the webslinger may be the best yet.

But he took it one step further when he compared Holland’s performance to some of the most iconic screen performances of the last decade.

Of course, the denizens of the internet are a cynical lot, so Gunn soon posted that he isn’t obliged to defend Marvel simply because he works for them.

Personally, I can’t wait to see more of Holland as the character. Roll on April 29!
