The third instalment of Marvel Studios’ Guardians Of The Galaxy has been given a release date and it looks like fans of the MCU’s space epic will be waiting until 2020 for it hit our screen.

While it has been speculated the third GotG film would see a 2020 release date, director James Gunn all but confirmed it during a Twitter Q&A.

The fan-favourite director who helmed the two first films confirmed that Star Lord, Rocket, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Mantis will be back in action… you’ll just have to wait two long years until you see them again.

While it is a long way off, in between that time at least you have this year’s Black Panther, the highly anticipated Avengers: Inifity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp and 2019’s long-overdue Captian Marvel and the follow up to Inifity War to look forward to.

Furthermore if you’re really desperate for your dose of GotG the gang will be turning up in this year’s aforementioned Avengers film, which was revealed by their cameo in last year’s trailer – with Thor asking the group ‘Who the hell are you guys?’. It’s also a safe bet to assume they’ll be appearing in the concluding Avenger’s film in 2019.

While 2020 is a long way off there have been some details regarding what to expect from GotG Vol.3. If you watched the last film during the mid-scene end credits Gunn teased the impending arrival of comic book favourite Adam Warlock. While we never got a look at him in the film, it seems his MCU counter-part will be similar to his comic book character as we know he’ll be born from a gold cocoon known as The Beehive.

As with all MCU superheroes, he has a unique power set – which happens to be so odd that I couldn’t possibly break down to you in layman’s/non-geek-speak terms, just know that it’s linked to the soul gem – which happens to be one of the six infinity stones Avengers villain Thanos is after. In other Marvel movie news, it has been confirmed that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is finally getting her own solo movie, while it’s still in its early stages it’s been reported that writer and producer Jac Schaeffer is on board to pen the script. Director of the first two Avengers movies, Joss Whedon, has previously expressed an interest in directing a Black Widow solo film too.

While it is up in the air regarding whether Robert Downey Jnr and Chris Evans will stay on as Iron Man and Captain America post-Avengers, Thor’s Chris Hemsworth is still keen to stay on as the God of Thunder and wants Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to stay as director for the fourth film.
