In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S history, a number of politicians have taken to Twitter to offer their ‘thoughts and prayers’ to the victims and their families.
But it turns out that a number of these politicians have – according to Twitter – not only opposed the tightening of America’s gun laws – they’ve received donations from one of the U.S’ most powerful lobbying forces – the National Rifle Association (NRA).
And one man has decided to call them out on their alleged hypocrisy. Twitter user Igor Volsky has taken to the social media to call out every politician who’s tweeting about Florida who’s taken money from the NRA in the past.
Here it is:
#ThoughtsAndPrayers I can get behind:
Dear Lord, give me the strength to stand up to @NRA & pass legislation to reduce gun violence

.@SenRonJohnson accepted $1.3 million+ from gun rights groups, so all you'll get are his #ThoughtsAndPrayers https://t.co/aIANKnToTD

#ThoughtsAndPrayers aren't enough. Give back the thousands you've taken from @NRA & DO something about gun violence https://t.co/8qNi0I4UvA

— igorvolsky (@igorvolsky) June 12, 2016
.@SenBurr go $32,792 in expenditures from @NRA, so his only response to biggest mass shooting will be this tweet https://t.co/xm6Icg4JG2

Heartbreaking that you took $7,500 from @NRA and now won't stand up to their opposition of all sensible gun laws https://t.co/w1rXF7O0tN
— igorvolsky (@igorvolsky) June 12, 2016
.@NRA dumped $922K into McConnell's re-elect, so he voted against stopping people on terror list from buying guns https://t.co/W9dVwBZ959

This list goes on, you can see it in full on Igor’s Twitter feed. If these allegations do turn out to be true – these are the very people who could put a stop to tragedies like this occurring – their thoughts and prayers won’t.
