A man had a terrifying ordeal when he found a part-spider-part-scorpion creature lurking between the window and the shutters of his house.

Oh hell no.

Its common names are the camel spider, wind scorpion or sun spider – but it’s actually not a spider and it’s not a scorpion. It’s a cousin to both, according to Pierce Hutton, a biology student at Arizona State University.

Thomas Acosta, who found the critter near his home in Arizona, said:

I didn’t know they were native to Arizona, I have seen camel spiders, but I heard of them in Iraq.

I didn’t know exactly what it was because I’ve never seen one in Arizona and I’ve lived here a long time.

The camel spider can grow big enough to eat small rodents and birds but it is non-venomous – still, I’d rather avoid.

Thomas is now looking at bringing in an exterminator to his house ‘really soon’.

Good idea.
