Police have released an unsettling mug shot of a young man, who’s been accused of killing his mum, smiling following his arrest.
22-year-old Justin Jay Paul has been accused of murdering his mother Jeanette at their family home in Westland, Michigan.
He allegedly killed her by repeatedly stabbing her in the throat on Wednesday.
Paul fled the scene following the attack but was arrested shortly afterwards when a family member found Jeanette’s body.
Police officers went door-to-door searching for Paul. When they found him there was an altercation and he was shot in the leg.
He was then taken to the hospital for treatment and a knife was found in Paul’s front pants pocket.
Paul denies murdering his mother and on Friday he entered a not guilty plea to a single first-degree murder charge at court.
Prosecutors haven’t revealed what they think led him to attack his mother and his father has said that while Paul suffers from ADHD and is bipolar he had no issue with his mum.
Vern Paul, Justin Paul’s father and Jeannette Paul’s husband told Click Detroit:
He a snap thing. Everything was good. They were going shopping. I’m mad for what he did, yeah, but I also want to talk to him. I need to know what happened. Why?
Paul is being held without bond until his next court date which has been set for January 4.
