Some genius has created a bot that automatically enters Twitter competitions for him.
You know the ones, where a company asks you to RT their tweet to be in with a chance of winning [insert super massive cool prize here], as a marketing ploy to get you to promote their business.
With the help of his creation, Hunter Scott has won over a thousand competitions, with his bot, @racer236, retweeting 165,000 competition promotions over a nine-month period.
He explained in an article on Gizmodo:
I wrote a Python script that logs into Twitter, searches for tweets that say something along the lines of “retweet to win!” and then retweets them.
He went on to say:
I won a lot of cool stuff, and getting mysterious things through my mailbox each day was pretty fun.
The most valuable thing I won was a trip to New York Fashion Week, which included a limo ride to the show if you lived in a state near New York for you and a friend, and $500 spending money.
The bot’s success rate works out at just under 1 per cent, but fair play, all you have to do is sit back and let the bot do the work.
Well played, sir.
