Remember when Harry Potter was the biggest thing in everyone’s lives and it was all anyone talked about?
Well we’re about to go retro and talk about a theory which managed to pass everybody back in 2005.
Everyone remembers the Triwizard Tournament, where Harry and Cedric (RIP) ended up in the graveyard to witness the return of Voldemort to full power.

It’s one of the most iconic moments in the film series, despite Harry’s absolutely awful hair – in fact everyone’s hair in the film was seriously questionable.
But there’s actually a massive plot hole in this part of the film which everybody seems to have just glossed over completely.
Luckily, we still have the die-hard fans to find the flaws in the plots and to think of ways to fix up said flaw so our childhoods aren’t collectively ruined.
Enter Tumblr user Miraniel, who spotted the Triwizard Cup didn’t act in the way a Portkey should have done.
Portkeys only tend to work in one direction and can’t take you back the way you came if you touch it again – but the Triwizard Cup did just that!
In fact, it actually transported Harry back to the front of the maze, as opposed to the centre where he touched the cup originally.
Weird, right? Well, here’s the theory…
Miraniel reckons Voldemort’s plan didn’t go at all swimmingly because he wanted to use the Cup to travel back to Hogwarts and mass-murder everybody there, including many dangerous witches and wizards.
It would have been the perfect place for Voldy and his backing band to get the element of surprise on the unsuspecting wizarding-world and just lay down their dark, dark, magic.
‘But how?!’ I hear you ask. Well, fans think the (port)key to understanding how this happened is in layered charms.
Let’s break this down – the first charm placed on the Cup was the charm which would bring the winner of the Triwizard Tournament back to the entrance of the maze.
Then somebody, presumably Barty Crouch Jr, placed a second charm on the Cup, which instead transported the winner of the cup (Harry) to the graveyard to be ceremoniously killed.
The first transportation would mean the first charm wore off, leaving only the original charm to work it’s literal magic and bring whoever touched it to the front of the maze.
BOOM! Mind. Blown. But wait, there’s more!
What if it wasn’t Harry who returned, but someone who looked exactly like Harry thanks to a little Polyjuice Potion?
It would be the perfect way to infiltrate Dumbledore’s closest ranks.
Here’s what Miraniel has to say:
Then Voldemort strips Harry’s body, takes his hair, and transforms into him (or else has one of his DE’s do this—but really, who would he pick? Lucius is an idiot, Bellatrix is still in jail, and he believes Snape has deserted him). He then takes the cup and goes to Hogwarts as Harry.
Later that night, Moody disappears, and Crouch takes Voldemort’s place as Harry Potter.
Then, when the moment is right, Voldemort-Harry or Crouch-Harry will assassinate Dumbledore (incidentally gaining the power of the Elder Wand, though he wouldn’t know it), stage a coup of Hogwarts, and take over the wizarding-world.
All the facts add up but is this what J.K. Rowling intended for Harry Potter? It would be pretty amazing if so.
It’s probably only a matter of time before she retroactively decides this is canon and tweets it out to mass hysteria.
