Earlier today, Uma Thurman spoke out for the first time about the alleged horrific experiences with Harvey Weinstein after saying she was waiting for her ‘anger to subside’ before talking.
In an open, honest interview with the New York Times Uma spoke out an alleged ‘attack’ by the ‘forceful’ ex-Hollywood executive.
Thurman said she first got to know Weinstein and his first wife, Eve, after the release of Pulp Fiction.
Continuing, she said:
I knew him pretty well before he attacked me. He used to spend hours talking to me about material and complimenting my mind and validating me. It possibly made me overlook warning signs.
This was my champion. I was never any kind of studio darling. He had a chokehold on the type of films and directors that were right for me.
Uma then went on to recall a meeting in Harvey Weinstein‘s Paris hotel room. They were allegedly arguing about a script when ‘the bathrobe came out’.
Uma said:
I didn’t feel threatened. I thought he was being super idiosyncratic, like this was your kooky, eccentric uncle.
She said Weinstein told her to follow him down a hall.
Uma continued:
Then I followed him through a door and it was a steam room. And I was standing there in my full black leather outfit — boots, pants, jacket. And it was so hot and I said, ‘This is ridiculous, what are you doing?’
And he was getting very flustered and mad and he jumped up and ran out.
The first alleged attack she says, came not long after in Weinstein’s suite at the Savoy Hotel in London.
She said:
It was such a bat to the head. He pushed me down. He tried to shove himself on me. He tried to expose himself.
He did all kinds of unpleasant things. But he didn’t actually put his back into it and force me. You’re like an animal wriggling away, like a lizard.
I was doing anything I could to get the train back on the track. My track. Not his track.
Then while Thurman was staying in Fulham with her friend, Ilona Herman, she said ‘a 26-inch-wide vulgar bunch of roses’ arrived.
She said:
They were yellow. And I opened the note like it was a soiled diaper and it just said, ‘You have great instincts’.
Weinstein’s assistants then supposedly started calling again to talk about projects.
When she thought she went to confront him and clear it up, taking Herman with her, she said his ‘assistants had their own special choreography to lure actresses into the spider’s web’.
In the process, they allegedly pressured her, putting Weinstein on the phone who insisted it was a ‘misunderstanding’.
Once the assistants had gone, she said she warned Weinstein:
If you do what you did to me to other people you will lose your career, your reputation and your family, I promise you.
Through a representative, Weinstein, who is currently said to be in therapy in Arizona, agreed ‘she very well could have said this’.
Reflecting, Uma said:
The complicated feeling I have about Harvey is how bad I feel about all the women that were attacked after I was.
I am one of the reasons that a young girl would walk into his room alone, the way I did. Quentin used Harvey as the executive producer of ‘Kill Bill,’ a movie that symbolises female empowerment. And all these lambs walked into slaughter because they were convinced nobody rises to such a position who would do something illegal to you, but they do.
Weinstein’s representatives told the NY Times:
Mr. Weinstein acknowledges making a pass at Ms. Thurman in England after misreading her signals in Paris. He immediately apologised.
However it is this point that Weinstein is arguing against and claims, though the incident in the Paris room has been apologised for, what has been alleged about the London hotel room is completely false.
An attorney for Weinstein has now claimed he is considering legal action after being ‘stunned and saddened’ by the accusations made by Thurman in her interview with the New York Times.
This story is set to go on and on and on, it seems.
