This is an absolute tear-jerker of a story, enough to melt even the stoniest of hearts.
Ian and Brittani McIntire from Kansas were told one of their unborn twins might not survive, as there were complications.
But they were left with some comfort, in the form of an extremely touching ultrasound photo.
The boy, Mason, was severely underweight, he had a hole in his heart and his brain wasn’t developing as it should.
It was because of his brain problems that doctors couldn’t perform surgery to save him, leaving the couple with the tragic reality that all they could do was sit and wait.
But during an ultrasound appointment they saw something that will serve as a reminder of their unborn babies’s love for each other – on the scan Mason’s sister Madilyn appeared to be holding her brother’s hand.
Brittani told Fox6:
We didn’t really see much, she said there’s his hand and there’s her hand and it looks like they’re holding hands.
Most twins, when she’s trying to take pictures and stuff, they’re kicking each other and hitting each other and she said…it seems like she was very protective over him.
The couple went on to say the photo has been a massive comfort to them, with Ian adding: “We know we have a piece of them together that will last forever… and it’s special to have.”
What an emotional roller coaster of a story…
