‘Tis the season for family gatherings, eggnog, stuffed turkeys, joy and caroling. But wouldn’t that season be made just a tad better if that eggnog had some rum in it and those family gatherings involved alcohol?
For those of us spending our entire holiday period in the pub, the answer is yes.
So if you happen to be by a few pints or bottles of wine and want to do something a little more exciting than sitting in a chair, here are some Christmas games to get you in the spirit.
The Twelve Days of Christmas
Starting with the youngest player, the first person begins by saying (or singing) the first words to ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ but replacing ‘partridge in a pear tree’ to something they actually want, like a crate of beer.
Then the next player would say something they would want, such as: “On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me: two chocolate cakes, and a crate of beer.”
Basically like the game ‘Going on a Picnic’ but in festive song. The first person to screw up has to take a shot.
The TV Santa Hat
All you have to do with this classic holiday drinking game is place a Santa hat on the corner of your tv (or, tape a little one anywhere on it). Whenever anyone on screen looks like they’re wearing it, drink. Or if you really want to get into the Christmas spirits (get it?), take a shot instead.
Kris Kringle
Get everyone to sit in a circle and go around, in order, saying ‘Kris Kringle’ at a fast pace. If anyone screws up or takes too long to say it, they must drink. Saying ‘Christmas Drinks’ on your turn instead can reverse the direction of play, but there’s a maximum allowance of three ‘Christmas Drinks’ in a row.
If anyone speaks out of turn, drink.
And if that’s all too easy, try ‘Santa’s sleigh slides on slick snow’ or ‘Santa’s sack sags slightly’ (No innuendo intended…).
All I Want For Christmas Is You
Each player must make a Mariah Carey style Christmas wish. For example, someone will declare: “All I want for Christmas is for ‘so and so’ to recreate Rick Astley’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ and post it on Facebook.” Then that person can either give the other person what they want for Christmas or take a shot. Basically, it’s a Christmas twist on truth or dare.
Home Alone drinking game
Drink every time someone insults, threatens, or complains about Kevin. Take a shot whenever Kevin talks to himself or someone says either polka or pizza.
Christmas Morning
If you’re more of a scrooge and you just want to get through Christmas morning without ripping your hair out, this one’s for you.
Throw some liqueur in your coffee and take a swig every time a gift exchange is clearly not equal, the recipient doesn’t understand the gift, asks for the receipt, or politely pretends they like a gift.
Beware: Some of these games are not for the lightweights among you, so please be sure to enjoy them as responsibly as possible.
Merry drinkmas!
