Forbes have released their list of the most overpaid in Hollywood and there’s more than a few surprises in there. To calculate who was on or off the list, they ‘looked at the last three films each actor starred in before June 2016, save animated films, movies where the actor appeared in an insignificant role, or movies that were released on fewer than 2,000 screens.’

They then compared their findings with how much the film made against how much the actor was paid.

From the bottom to the top…

Bradley Cooper

Warner Brothers

At the bottom is the hangover star who hasn’t had as a successful year film-wise than when he did with American Hustle and Guardians of the Galaxy. His films this year however, still made $12.10 for every $1 paid to him, placing him firmly as the 10th most overpaid.

At number nine is the Notting Hill actress whose 2016 films Mother’s Day and Money Monster, weren’t sell-outs, but still made her a fair whack, making the box office $10.80 for every $1 paid to the actress.

Lower down the list than expected is the the Wolf of Wall Street himself, but still not bad considering the legendary actor wasn’t in any new films this year- apart from The Revenant, which was technically released in 2015. Despite this, he made $1 for every $9.90 the box office made.

Mark Wahlberg

Universal Pictures

The Ted actor’s films didn’t smash that hard this year, but he made $1 for every $9.20, putting him at number seven.

Adam Sandler

Columbia Pictures

Amazingly, the 50 First Dates actor is near half-way on the list, despite the films he’s been in this year being less than popular. For every $7.60 made he got $1 though, putting him at number six.

George Clooney

Warner Brothers

Lower down than anticipated is George Clooney at number five, who got $1 for every $6.70 made, despite Tomorrowland barely breaking even…

Will Ferrell

Paramount Pictures

The original Anchorman disappoints with Zoolander 2, which received an embarrassing 23 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, only just scraping by to make a profit, making $56 million on a $50 million budget. This puts the Elf comedian at number four, making $1 for every $6.50 made.

Channing Tatum

Warner Brothers

Magic Mike XXL was quite a success, pulling in $122 million on its $14.8 million budget however flop, Jupiter Ascending dragged down his box office earning potential. The Step Up star only pulled in $6 for every $1 he was paid, putting him at number three.

Will Smith

Columbia Pictures

The Men In Black actor makes a hell of a lot of money despite his films bombing this year. He only managed to pull in a dismal $5 a ticket but still took $1 of that, placing the Independence Day star at number two.

Johnny Depp

Walt Disney Pictures

At the number one hotspot is Johnny Depp, for the second year in a row, pulling in a meagre $2.80 at the box office and making $1 from that. His turbulent marriages and high-profile divorce cases this year, amongst other accusations won’t exactly aid his film’s earning potential…

It’s frustrating to see so many actor’s with terrible films making so much money regardless. I guess how well the movie does is irrelevant to them, they’re still making millions…
