Remember that £90,000 Range Rover a scorned lover spray painted graffiti all over?
Well, if you were a bit suspicious over the whole thing, you had good reason.
Pictures of the brand new Range Rover were shared all over the world after it was left outside Harrods earlier this month, sprayed with the words ‘cheater’, ‘liar’ and ‘I hope she was worth it’ in huge, red letters.
Coincidentally, the brand new £90,000 Revere Range Rover was left outside a luxury department store in one of London’s wealthiest areas.
It went viral, but apparently that’s what it was all about.
Instead of spending thousands on advertising, Range Rover got us to do the work for them. After all, what better way is there to publicise something than sharing it hundreds of times on the Internet?
The stunt was confirmed after a luxury auto design and enhancement workshop said it had painted the car in an advertising stunt for the new Revere Range Rover Vogue.
A video posted to YouTube shows a member of R-Tec Auto Design’s team say: “Fake cheater, take one” before scrawling on the car with red paint.
Footage then shows the Range Rover driving through London before parking outside Harrods on Basil Street – and secret dash cam footage taken from inside the car shows hundreds of people gathering around throughout the day.
While many were convinced a scorned lover vandalised the car, some of us didn’t buy it.
A doorman at Harrods told the Standard:
A young bloke got out the car, went for a cup of tea and then left again.
I think it was a hoax to be honest. Everybody has been talking about it and there were lots of people crowding around and taking photographs of it.
Revere London said it had released the video after ‘false rumours’ circulated about who was claiming to be behind the stunt.
That’s definitely one way to advertise.
