GettyUnless you stayed up late to watch it, you probably woke up this morning to the news that Conor McGregor had exulted revenge on Nate Diaz at UFC 202 last night.
The featherweight champion and MMA superstar stepped up two weight classes to fight Diaz back in March but after a shock defeat the pair arranged for round two, reports the BBC.
And this time, things didn’t go too well for Nate.
GettyIn the build up to the fight, tensions have been high between the two fighters, most notably at the press conference last Wednesday when the pair had a lot to say about one another, and a lot to throw.
But all tension and arguments aside it was McGregor who was crowned the winner.
‘The king is back’ roared McGregor as the judges revealed he had won the bout with a score of 48-47 by two judges, and 47-47 by another.
"Surprise, surprise mother f*cker. The King is back!"

And what did McGregor gain from the fight? Other than pride, respect, and yet another win to his name – he also bagged $3 million dollars – the largest UFC payout of all time.

In case you were wondering, Diaz didn’t go home empty handed either – picking up a casual $2 million for the brutal contest.
Arguably, the fight was the toughest of McGregor’s life and afterwards it was revealed that McGregor’s foot was pretty bust up too.
As the final bell rang, McGregor said:
Surprise, surprise motherfucker! The king is back. If you want the trilogy, it’s on my terms. I knew what I had to do this time around and I did it.
All I know is that it’s 1-1. Let’s regroup and do it again!
This time I want to do it at 155 pounds, I came in at 170 with him as the bigger man and I overcame that adversity.
Now this trilogy is on my terms, come back down to 155 and we’ll do it.
Well it seems like the trilogy is soon to become a reality with the boy from Stockton saying:
Hey, good job today, Conor, but we’re going for three. For real. Until then I ain’t coming back.
As the fight began McGregor went straight at it and bloodied the face of Diaz, knocking him to the canvas numerous times – however instead of taking the fight to the ground, McGregor forced Diaz to get back on the his feet so they could have it out standing up.

However Diaz absorbed almost every shot McGregor could throw which exhausted the Irishman in the latter rounds of the fight.

Personally, I can’t wait for the final fight of the trilogy however when it will be is a different matter as there are numerous calls on the Notorious to defend his featherweight belt or to vacate it.
Only time will tell I guess.
