It was buried underneath the Ordensburg Krossinsee centre, a building the Nazi’s built in 1934 to train their future leaders, and is currently used by the Polish Army.

Archaeologists have known the capsule was there for decade but were unable to get to it until now, The Daily Mail reports.

Researchers had to use a smash their way through concrete, dodge German mines and slop through groundwater to get at the tube.

Dr Marcin Peterleitner, who was involved in the excavation, explained that the artefacts in the time capsule were all ‘perfectly preserved’ and looked like they’d been put in the tube yesterday.

The items in the capsule have been sent to the National Museum in Szczecin.
