With a simple head tilt a dog can warm the hearts of even the most ‘orrible people out there, but why do they do it?
The cynics among us would almost certainly think ‘it’s a trap!’, you know the one, where they widen their eyes and try to look as cute as possible too get some doggy treats/bite of your lunch. But, apparently there’s an actual scientific and more heartwarming reason.
avlas/RedditAccording to Mental Floss, experts found out that our beloved canine companions emphasise with us humans and pick up on our emotions by reading the small signals in anything we do from our facial expressions to our body language to our voices. Awh, that’s pretty cute.
Whether we are giving them a rollicking for chewing up and destroying all our possessions or telling them it’s time for walkies apparently they’re tilting their head to pick up on your emotions.
kullinokka/RedditThe researchers have also suggested that there could be other factors that influence the ‘head tilt’, such as adjusting their ear to pinpoint the source of a sound, as their ability to locate a noise isn’t anywhere near as accurate as our own.
