Turns out there’s a genuine reason not to take selfies, aside from the fact from they’re super obnoxious of course.

Apparently taking too many selfies can result in a strange phenomena known as ‘selfie elbow’ which is a strange pain in your elbow.

The ‘condition’ was noted by Hoda Kotb, of NBC’s Today programme, who began to get a weird achy pain in her elbow and went to an orthopedist about the pain.

In an interview with ELLE, she said:

I went to the orthopedist and he said, ‘Are you playing tennis or ping-pong?’ And of course I’m not, so I told him I was taking selfies.

When you take the picture, your arm is up, bent in a weird way and you just click, click, click — think about how many you take: 20, 30, or 40. Selfie elbow, everyone has it!

Thankfully the condition isn’t too serious, but if you do suffer from it ice, stretching and anti-inflammatories can help deal with the symptoms.

So remember to stretch before snapping your next selfie your arm will thank you or it!
