You know the terrifying doll spider, with one eye from Toy Story which kind of looked like a crab and once scared you? Well I hate to tell you this, but it’s real.
A Twitter user has been permanently traumatised after spotting a massive crab with the head of an eye-less doll.
Though it looks like something Sid the sadist may have concocted, the crab is actually a coconut hermit crab which is the largest land-living arthropod in the world.
Like other species of hermit crab, the coconut crab seeks out empty gastropod shells in order to protect its exoskeleton while it’s a juvenile.
It seems this crab couldn’t find an appropriate shell so got creative.
The dark side to this story is, like most other natural tragedies, it’s the fault of humans.
When we take all the shells from beaches, we are effectively rendering these crabs homeless and then they have to humiliate themselves by taking shelter in a dolls head.
One biologist on Reddit used the freaky photo to highlight the ecological damage our discarded waste is doing.
Always recycle your dolls heads kids.
