Heroic Mum Dresses As Wonder Woman For Last Day Of Chemo

A mother-of-two battling breast cancer has dressed up as her favourite super hero to celebrate her final day of chemotherapy.

Danielle Javernig, who was diagnosed in May this year has already undergone a double mastectomy as well as having her lymph nodes removed.

In an interview with Daily Mail Australia she said:

Wonder Woman was the very first costume my sister and I were given as a child. My brother had a costume and we used to dress up and play superheroes. All through chemo you sit there and it’s very depressing and everyone is sick and feeling horrible. On the last day I wanted it to not be like that at all.

Mrs Javernig has told of how she woke up one night with an intense stabbing pain in her right breast and when morning came, she felt a lump under her skin. She was diagnosed with BRCA1, a hereditary gene mutation that greatly increases a woman’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer and had already been responsible for the deaths of four women in her family.

Now she has finished chemo, she is having radiation treatment five days a week and will have a hysterectomy in the new year. In spite of all this she remains positive and is using the publicity around her heroic costume to encourage women to check themselves and their family medical history to protect themselves.
