The great thing about horror movies is that, although they can be horrifyingly realistic, you never actually think it can happen to you.
Chances are, you’ll never walk through the woods and find a creepy camp in a clearing surrounded by dozens of missing persons posters, shovels, and a cage.
At least, that’s what you’d hope. But one guy came across just that on Monday, and it’s haunting.
The YouTube user who posted footage of his find wrote:
This is something I stumbled across while hiking in the woods this afternoon. There’s like 25 missing persons posters taped to the trees, along with some ratty old bedding, a shovel, a large tent, and a collapsed handmade wooden cage surrounding a filled-in hole. I tried to get as many of the posters in frame as I could but the video was aborted when I heard voices coming from the direction of the adjacent residence.
Two films, totalling about 20 minutes of footage, show a camp with one large tent, bedding, a fire pit and tree stumps arranged in a circle in a clearing. After leaving when he heard voices, the hiker went back ‘for the sole purpose of saving a geotag on Gmaps’ and to retrieve evidence.
While the camp is no doubt terrifying, the missing persons seem to have no relation to one another, with most of them coming from different parts of America, and one from Canada.
Most commenters to the video are assuming this is something set up for Halloween, but if not, let’s hope the real reason is found.
