On Friday, ‘Humans of New York’ photographer Brandon Stanton posted a heartbreaking photo of a homosexual teen who’s afraid of what the future holds for him.

The Humans of New York photography blog tells the various stories of New York City’s vibrant inhabitants through pictures accompanied by quotes.

And one teenager was unsure if America was ready to accept him but the photo quickly went viral after he was inundated with messages of support on Facebook.

"I'm homosexual and I'm afraid about what my future will be and that people won't like me."

The photo received overwhelmingly positive responses, with 2016 U.S presidential candidate Hillary Clinton leading the comments.

Comedian and TV host Ellen DeGeneres also posted a typically charming message of support on the image.

In addition, there were hundreds of comments from people offering their love and support, many telling personal stories about their own experiences.

Sometimes the internet really is a wonderful place!
