KCALThere were more than sparks flying between this lucky young couple when they were hit by lightning and survived, just because they were holding hands at the time.
Lexie Varga and Dylan Corliss remarkably suffered only minor injuries in the strike, which came out of nowhere when the teens were walking through Claremont, California on Thursday.
Speaking to KCAL, Corliss said:
It was more of just kind of shove, you know, and it felt kind of like I was getting hit over the head with metal or something.
And it all happened so quickly that the couple had no idea what happened to them until a witness explained to them that they’d actually been struck by lightning!

Varga added:
It was definitely weird. I kind of thought there was an earthquake.
Dr. Stefan Reynoso, who treated the pair, told KCAL he believes the couple’s lives were saved because they were holding hands when they were struck.
He said:
These two were lucky that they were holding hands. It helped to diffuse the electrical current that ran through their bodies.
Talk about a lucky escape. Let’s hope that lightning doesn’t strike twice and the only electricity between these two in the future isn’t falling from the sky!
