One man has been sentenced to prison after launching a verbal attack on two gay men singing songs from the musical Wicked on a tram.
Ian Oldham was jailed for 13 weeks after the abuse, after targeting Jean Claude Manseau and Jake Heaton, calling them ‘baty boys’ and ‘gay boys’.
The abuse took place in November last year, in Manchester, with Oldham following them off the tram and calling a group of men over to physically abuse them.
Manseau was then beaten so badly he lost consciousness, with the gang yet to be identified.
Oldham, 29, has claimed that the two men were loud and disruptive on the tram, swearing, but has admitted that he did cause the men to attack them – yet denied he was homophobic.
