Fox 2/Younes FamilyVideo footage has emerged of alleged abuse of an elderly man by nurses inside a nursing home in Michigan.
The wheelchair-bound man, who was apparently recovering from surgery, was slapped by carers on his head, before they threw him on the bed and reportedly used ‘racial slurs’.
The children of the man, Salim Younes and his five siblings, filed a lawsuit against the care home back in September 2016 for ‘gross mistreatment’ during his stay at the home.
Younes reportedly stayed at the home for a few weeks in 2015 after surgery, but began complaining to his kids he was being abused, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

As a result, the family contacted the nursing home who ‘investigated’ and told the family Younes’ claims were untrue.
However, Salim was not satisfied and his father continued to complain. Eventually the family noticed bruises and cuts on their father’s body.
To try to get to the bottom of the situation, the family placed a secret camera in Younes’ room and uncovered the disturbing footage.
It’s been speculated Younes’ was subjected to the abuse for ‘racist’ reasons, as one of the clips allegedly shows the nurse praising president Donald Trump for trying to get Arab Americans deported from the USA.
GettySalim said he and his family came forward to shed a light on the situation:
I’m here to tell the story to the media, because what happened to me and my dad and my family, what we’ve been through, is unbearable.
The purpose that I’m here (for) is to let the world know that this place is no good.
I don’t advise anybody to put their family over there.
Fox 2The statement from the attorney’s for Autumnwood of Livonia nursing home reads in part:
In December 2015, the Younes family’s attorney raised concerns to staff of Autumnwood of Livonia about the treatment of Mr. Younes after he had been discharged from the facility.
The Younes family’s attorney informed staff they believed Mr Younes had been abused at the facility. Despite requests for additional information, no details were offered.
My client immediately conducted an internal investigation, reported the allegations to the state survey agency that regulates nursing homes, and reported the allegations to the local police department consistent with state and federal regulations.
My client and the notified governmental agencies, were unable to substantiate the allegations with the information we had at the time…

The actions depicted in the video are in no way illustrative of the quality care that is provided by the caring staff at Autumnwood on a daily basis.
When Autumnwood received this new information and video, another internal investigation was immediately launched and the new information provided by the Younes’ attorney, five months after the alleged incident, was turned over by Autumnwood to the state survey agency and law enforcement.
The employees identified from the video have been terminated and additional training has been provided to all employees.
Autumnwood continues to assist the involved state regulatory and law enforcement agencies with their investigations of the former staff and is committed to continuing to provide quality care to all of the residents and families they have the privilege to serve.
As the family has filed a civil complaint and the matter is in litigation, Autumnwood cannot comment any further.
