Horrifying Sex And The City Scene Was Cut By HBO Because It Was So Disgusting

Even though the final episode of Sex and the City aired in February 2004, there are tales from the set and scenes left on the editing floor even the hardcore fanbase are unaware of.

One deleted scene, in particular, had to be completely scrubbed out, after it was deemed too disgusting – even by HBO standards.

Known for airing shows where Lena Dunham offers alternative eating options, and a brother and sister show the kind of affection which would make you call Ofcom, it’s a surprising revelation.

However, after finding out what it is they actually cut, you’ll fully agree the head honchos at HBO made the right call.

While they’re no prudes themselves, even HBO has lines they won’t cross – that threshold being beastiality.

According to Darren Starr, the show’s creator, the scene which proved too much came at the first season after HBO‘s bigwigs refused to air a scene involving Charlotte York (played by Kristin Davis) and a man she was dating – who happens to be a big fan of fellatio.

Speaking to Vanity Fair Starr said:

He basically was always pushing her head down to give him oral sex. And he had this golden retriever who was always around.

Before I go any further, try and guess where this going… no? Well, I shall let Starr continue.

Starr goes on to say:

She basically let him have it about being offended by his insistence on just wanting a blow job.

She accused him of only liking her for that and kind of stormed out. And then she walked back in and saw that his golden retriever was going down on him.

I am not a prude, I can take most things TV throws at me, but I think I can safely speak for most people when I say HBO made the right call.

No one wants to see that kind of filth, not in 1998 (when the show first aired) and definitely not now.

The episode’s screenwriter, Amy B. Harris added:

It’s sort of horrifying that we shot that. We shot him putting peanut butter on his penis, and Charlotte walks back in like, ‘Oh, I’m being unreasonable,’ and then she sees that … I can’t believe we even thought about doing it.

While it’s a really gross scene no one would’ve ever wanted to see, in hindsight, it was a good test for the network’s moral barometer.

The writers and the showrunners now knew there was a line which couldn’t be crossed and the SATC staff could go on to make content which would resonate for six seasons and two movies.

In October 2016, Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the show’s main character, Carrie Bradshaw, revealed she was unsure if any of the characters, apart from hers, were actually REAL.

In the show, Carrie is a sex columnist and along with her three friends – Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda – they explore Manhattan’s dating scene, chronicling the mating habits of single New Yorkers.

That’s right, she thinks they may have all been a narcissistic figment of her imagination. There you go, mind blown, just like Neo in The Matrix after he took the red pill from Morpheus.

Just so we’re clear, HBO will air your TV series (providing it’s good of course) where you can slaughter a whole family at a wedding, dramatise 70’s pimp culture in New York or watch a young corner boy take a bullet to the gut.

But if you think you can have a scene where an actor is getting his jollies from an animal, you’ve got another thing coming.
