Christmas Eve can be one of the best nights of the year with the Christmas joy, friends and alcohol on full blast – but the night can sometimes end on a low note when we’re faced with the nightmare of paying for a triple fare taxi.
Enter Budweiser to save the day.
The brewery giant has teamed up with Uber to give everyone a free ride home. But while your inner drunk self is probably singing ‘Hallelujah’ to the heavens right now, the offer comes with a sobering message.
For the past three years December has been the worst month for drink driving as Christmas drinks combine with reduced public transport. And despite all the reasons not to, people are still drinking and driving. That’s why Budweiser wants to get everyone home safe, and they’re doing that by giving us all £15 off our ride.
They even enlisted Dame Helen Mirren to spread the message:
“We’ve run a lot of responsible drinking campaigns in the past, but for 2016 we wanted to take our commitments to the next level with an initiative of epic proportions that would really have an impact,” said Steph Okell from Budweiser UK.
“If we can deter people from getting behind the wheel after drinking this Christmas, we’ll consider the campaign a success.”
And it’s a campaign that could prove incredibly useful.
So how do you get your free ride? The first thing you need to do is head here and enter your details.
Once you’ve done that, Budweiser will send out a discount code to you via email at 4pm on Xmas Eve. If you’re booking an Uber between 4pm and 11:59pm, open the menu on the left hand side of the app, hit ‘Payment’ and select ‘Add promo/Gift code’ and tap ‘Add’.
As long as your journey finishes by 1:30am, you’ll get the discount – also available on uberX and to both existing and new Uber customers.
Don’t be a pillock, get home safe.
