It’s really not been a good few weeks for explosions in Asia, as an Arms Depot explodes near Tokyo.
The explosion happened at Sagami General Depot, a US military base used for storing fuel and ammunition in the Japanese area of Kanagawa at around 5pm GMT today.
Ten fire crews rushed to tackle the blaze, and as of yet, nearby areas haven’t been evacuated.
The Pentagon as issued a statement saying that they were aware of the explosion, and were investigating.
An eyewitness told a Japanese news channel:
I was asleep, and at first I thought it might have been the roar of thunder.
But then there was a sequence of explosions for 10, maybe 15 minutes.
A pillar of orange rose to the skies, and the air was filled with the smell of gunpowder.
There’s no fatalities reported at the moment, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blast.
