Hugh Jackman Says Wolverine Is Going To Return

Logan (2017) wrapped up the story of Wolverine, with an emotional climax fans won’t forget in a hurry.

However, Hugh Jackman himself has created great excitement after hinting the regenerative anti-hero could still make a return.

Could it be that we haven’t seen the last of the quick-healing mutant?

During this week’s episode of Sunday Today, Jackman discussed the possibilities of Wolverine’s return with host, Willie Geist.

With surprising confidence, the 50-year-old Australian actor opined:

Oh, Wolverine will be back. Someone’s going to buy him, I don’t know.

Geist responded:

Not you though?

To this statement, Jackman replied by throwing cold water over any hopes of a Wolverine/Deadpool collaboration:

No, but Ryan [Reynolds] is relentless. He keeps coming back to me in all these ways, shapes and forms.

I just said, ‘You know, I just don’t think the world really wants to see Deadpool with Wolverine.’ Maybe a cameo from Deadpool? I just think it runs over it for Deadpool.

Jackman then went on to jokingly describe Reynolds as a ‘dag’, which is apparently the Aussie equivalent of a ‘goof’.

However, it appears Jackman’s fanbase ardently disagree with his views on what ‘the world wants to see’, with many showing wild enthusiasm at the prospect of Deadpool and Wolverine joining forces.

One person declared:

The world doesn’t want it THE WORLD NEEDS IT. [sic]

Another said:

Mr. @RealHughJackman with all due respect sir, most of us would sell our first born to buy a ticket to a #Wolverine #Deadpool crossover….I am also sure @VancityReynolds would sell my first born for a movie crossover like that….. [sic]

All kidding aside your fans would love it.

Reynolds has often spoken of his unrequited desire to resurrect Wolverine, telling Entertainment Weekly:

I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best.

I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.

However, stubborn Jackman remains firm, having previously explained how a chat with comedian and sit-com star Jerry Seinfeld influenced his decision to put aside his claws after 17 years.

As reported by Variety, Jackman said:

I was having a chat with [Seinfeld] about a year ago … he was talking about why he finished Seinfeld … He said he’d always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience’s energy is going to dip over into people [saying] ‘Oh, please go’.

Hugh Jackman has made the role of Wolverine/Logan his own, perfecting the brooding stare and innate toughness which permeates throughout the character’s every movement.

It’d be difficult to imagine somebody else taking up the role, but somewhere out there in the world, there’s no doubt a highly capable Wolverine pup ready to take over in good time…
