Former pro-wrestling hero Hulk Hogan has taken to Twitter this week to thank his fans for their support in the light of his release from WWE after he allegedly made racist remarks.

The 61-year-old Hogan – real name Terry Bollea – was fired from the company after reports that an old tape showed him ranting about his daughter dating a black man.

And in the wake of the scandal, Hogan told his 1.3 million followers he was “overwhelmed by the love” and retweeted their messages of support.

Unfortunately for the six-time former WWE/WWF champion (but hilariously for the rest of us), he also shared numerous messages from social media users who he thought were genuine well wishers, but were actually pranksters mocking him.

It all started when he retweeted a photo of Liverpool and Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure, and things quickly spiralled out of control from there.

Soon, Hulk was retweeting a myriad of images of footballers as his Twitter account became a real-life parody.

Hogan unwittingly shared pictures of ex-England footballer Rio Ferdinand, posing next to Drake, followed by messages from accounts with pictures of Everton and Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku, Efetobore Ambrose of Celtic and Nigeria, and Arsenal team-mates Jack Wilshere and Danny Welbeck.

Even Martin Keown and Mathieu Flamini made an appearance!

Seriously, Hulk’s management might want to have a quiet word and tell him to stay off social media for a while!
